Copyright Infringement Experts & Kim Dotcom Extradition

New Zealand Judge Nevin Dawson has said that Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom can be extradited to the US to face charges that include copyright infringement, racketeering, wire fraud, and money laundering. Dotcom’s US attorney said expert witnesses in US extradition law, mass data storage and file-sharing will help them fight the case. US authorities state that Megaupload paid users to upload pirated films and music for profit. US film studios and record companies claim the file sharing site cost them more than $500M.

Copyright Expert Witness On Taylor Swift Lawsuit

Intellectual property expert witnesses may opine on copyright, trademark, and patent matters. IP expert witness Dr. Michael A. Einhorn recently described the $42M copyright infringement lawsuit against singer Taylor Swift as “going nowhere.” US District Court Judge Gail Standish subsequently dismissed R&B singer Jesse Braham’s case against Swift’s 2014 hit Shake It Off. Braham claims Swift took key phrases from his work Haters Gone Hate. Judge Standish ruled that Braham may file another complaint if he sufficiently bolsters his case.

Computer Expert Witness & Oracle Win

Oracle Corp. won against Google Inc. on Friday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington. The court decided Oracle could copyright parts of the Java programming language. In the 2012 District Court case, Stanford University professor and computer expert witness John Mitchell testified that Google must have copied code from Oracle’s Java platform. “I don’t think there is any way [Google] could have come up with it on their own.”
