Police Procedures Expert On Misconduct Charges

Cases alleging law enforcement misconduct are heavily scrutinized and require experienced expert witnesses. Law enforcement expert witnesses have expertise in police operations, investigations, arrest procedures, use of force analysis, and more.

In the news, Dr. Michael d. Lyman, professor of criminal justice at Columbia College, testified this week in the trial of William Porter, one of six Baltimore officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray. Gray’s neck was broken while being transported in shackles in a Baltimore police van. He died a week later.

Prosecutors say Porter didn’t get Gray help when he asked for a medic and failed to buckle Gray in during transport.  The officer is charged with manslaughter, assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment. Police practices expert Dr. Lyman testified that it is the responsibility of all officers to make sure prisoners are buckled into seat belts so they don’t move around and/or become injured.
