Petroleum Expert Witnesses & Delaware River Spills

What issues may petroleum expert witnesses consult on?  These experts may write reports and opine on oil rigs, oil and gas, oil and gas leaks, crude oil, refining technology, fuels, and related matters. The U.S. Coast Guard is working to clean up approximately 1,000 gallons of crude oil that spilled in the Delaware River near Philadelphia on January 27th, 2014.  A Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection press release reports that Monroe Energy LLC promptly reported the spill and took necessary actions to minimize environmental impacts.  The Trainer, Delaware County, spill happened while Monroe crews were off-loading crude oil and a pipe burst.  Last week, approximately 50 gallons of oil spilled into the Delaware River from a Sunoco facility and an additional 2,000 gallons flowed into a parking lot.

The U.S. Dept. of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration tracks data on oil spills, specifically the frequency of failures, incidents, and accidents.  PHMSA also analyzes the causes and the resulting consequences and reports this data in various categories such as year, state, type, cause, and result.  Below are PHMSA statistics on Barrels of Oil, Spilled, Recovered and Lost.
