Medical Experts Testify In Case of Doctor Facing 350 MedMal Claims

Surgery, Operations RoomMultiple medical malpractice experts testified Tuesday in a case against a former Merrillville, IN, nose doctor who allegedly fled the country on the heels of hundreds of lawsuits.  Mark Weinberger is facing 350 medical malpractice claims, as well as $5.7 million in creditor claims and 22 criminal counts of billing fraud, state and federal court records show. Weinberger had a successful practice in Merrillville before he allegedly disappeared in September 2004. In 2009 he was extradited from Italy to the United States, where he was arrested and has been imprisoned awaiting the pending federal cases against him.

In the case being heard this week in Hammond’s Lake Superior Court, Gary plaintiff William Boyer claimed Weinberger did a shoddy job on his nasal surgery. Boyer suffered from physical and emotional pain, in addition to “betrayal and abandonment in violation of the physician-patient relationship,” Boyer’s attorneys said.
