Medical Expert Opines In Overdose Death

Medical_0002In a sworn statement, medical expert Dr. James O’Brien said that Ven Hsu, a Waterbury, CT, doctor over-prescribed high frequencies of Soma, a muscle relaxant that triggered the prescription drug overdose of a Waterbury woman in April 2009.  Hsu is facing charges of second-degree manslaughter and illegally supplying drugs.

“It is my professional opinion that 35-year-old Theresa Dellacroce died as a result of the ingestion of excessive quantities of Soma prescribed by Dr. Hsu,” said Dr. James O’Brien.  “It is obvious to me the amount of Soma prescribed is outside the scope of professional medical practice and directly led to Miss Dellacroce’s death,” said O’Brien.  A drug control agent told O’Brien that Hsu appeared to have prescribed large quantities of Soma, Percocet and Dilaudid that led to Dellacroce’s death, the warrant said.
