Medical Expert On Medical Training

Following the enormous cost of misdiagnoses and treatment recorded in hospitals, medical expert Professor Scott Stern has called for a reorientation of medical training on diseases to problems patients complain about.  Professor Stern, a Professor of Medicine, University of Chicago, spoke at a lecture entitled “e-learning in medical education” and stated that medical students need to be taught diagnostic reasoning to ensure less errors in medical practice.

Stern declared, “Medical students are taught about disease in basic sciences, yet in clinics, patients present with symptoms and the student has to figure out the disease responsible for the symptom.  Doing this requires clinical reasoning.”
