Fire Expert Witnesses & Interagency Hotshot Crews

Fire expert witnesses may consult on fire retardants, fire and explosions investigation, fire equipment, fire safety / protection, wild land fires, and related matters. The Granite Mountain Hotshots, wildfire specialists who lost their lives fighting the Yarnell, AZ, fire were trained to use foil-lined, heat-resistant tarps as emergency shelters to cover themselves as a last resort. Arizona Forestry Division spokesman Mike Reichling said all 19 victims deployed their emergency shelters but the shelters work in cleared areas and not in the direct path of a raging inferno of heat and hot gases.

Hotshot crews are considered an elite group among wild land firefighters with extensive training and the ability to undertake difficult and dangerous assignments.  There are approximately 107 interagency hotshot crews in operation in the U.S.
