Fire Expert On Minnesota Winter Fires

Peat fire expert Brian Pisarek, the Department of Natural Resources Northeast Region program forester, says it’s unusual to be battling a peat fire at this time of year. Northwestern Minnesota has had several wild fires and they are hard to fight in the winter.  Water does not flow well in low winter temperatures and equipment must be kept from freezing.
