Explosives Expert Witness Testified In Gas Explosion Trial

Explosives expert witness David Sheppard testified in the case against Mark Leonard who was found guilty of murder, arson and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud in a home explosion that gutted a subdivision and killed two neighbors.  Sheppard, of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, described how the natural gas explosion sparked a huge fire that damaged or destroyed more than 80 homes in Indianapolis. Leonard planned to collect $300,000 insurance money after filling his Indianapolis home with natural gas and pouring gasoline in two rooms.

St. Joseph County Superior Court Judge John Marnocha presided.
