Environmental Expert On The Ilion Project Task Force

Chemicals, BiomedicalEnvironmental expert Anne Rabe of the Center for Health, Environment and Justice will address a community forum at Herkimer County Community College based on research done by a local task force about possible environmental health hazards from nearby chemical sites.  The expert will speak about her findings on the thousands of pages ascertained through the Freedom of Information Act by Carrie Lenarcic Firestone from the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Ilion Project Task Force is investigating the correlation between the rate of rare diseases and other health issues with the proximity of chemical sites. Firestone said the health complaints range from cancer to auto-immune and reproductive problems.  The group will also go over the results of independent testing performed by Upstate Laboratories, which included tests in basements, soil and water in various places throughout the village.
