Engineering Experts & Quantas Explosion

Business_Finance_14061Qantas has said it has engineers working around the clock to try and determine what caused one of the engines on an A380 superjumbo to fail last week prompting an emergency landing of the aircraft in Singapore. Spokeswoman, Olivia Worth, said as well as engineers from Qantas, experts from British engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce and Airbus were also examining the problem.  The problems in the turbine sections of the Rolls-Royce Trent 900s were discovered after a serious malfunction caused an explosion on a Qantas flight shortly after it departed from Singapore.  Rolls-Royce has said it is still too early to determine the exact cause of the problem.

According to one passenger on the Qantas flight, there was a loud bang, suggesting an explosion. John Page, an aerospace engineering expert from the University of South Wales said it was a credit to the engineering that the engine failure had not resulted in a far more serious outcome.
