Construction Experts & Kansas City Foreclosed Homes

Construction_Engineering_57176Kansas City is saving foreclosed homes using stimulus money. Homes are being acquired and resold by the nonprofit community development agency Neighborhood Housing Services, and federal stimulus dollars are helping with the renovation.  A construction expert inspects every home and reviews every proposed improvement. Neighborhood Housing Services hopes to prompt more private investment, improve property values, and find owners who can afford to keep and maintain the properties.

Mark Stalsworth, executive director of the nonprofit Neighborhood Housing Services, and other community development leaders say they will acquire and fix 100 Kansas City foreclosures as part of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.  After a rocky start, the program is gaining momentum. Kansas City officials are optimistic they can get $7.3 million in stimulus money obligated by the Sept. 18 deadline.
