Construction Expert & $1M Arbitration

Construction TeamA construction expert with PMA Consultants will represent the City of Prescott, AZ, in the arbitration to contest the addition of nearly $1 million to the cost of the recent reconstruction of Demerse Avenue.  At issue in the case is Mesa contractor Spire Engineering’s claim that the city owes the company $991,228 for the street construction project that occurred on Demerse Avenue in 2009 and 2010. The claim would be in addition to the $2,548,937 amount of the original construction contract.

Almost from the beginning, Spire officials maintained that the city’s specifications did not adequately alert the bidders about the amount of utility lines and granite rock that lay underground along the central Prescott street.  Ultimately, the delays from those two issues caused the project – which began in the spring of 2009 and was scheduled to be completed later that fall – to extend well into the spring of 2010.
