Computer Technology Expert Witness Testifies On Drones

Computer technology expert witness Joshua Walden testified before the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade on November 19, 2015. The hearing, entitled The Disrupter Series: The Fast – Evolving Uses and Economic Impacts of Drones, reviewed the use of drones and their economic impact on businesses and consumers. Mr. Walden is a senior vice president and general manager of the New Technology Group at Intel Corporation. Intel.com describes drones as a “computing platform of the future.”

Subcommittee chair  Rep. Michael C. Burgess stated:

American drone makers have shown their commitment to innovation in turning what was once seen as science fiction into a reality available to consumers and businesses across the country. There are many exciting drone applications in various stages of development. Entrepreneurship and innovation are part of this country’s foundation and we should be searching for ways to position the U.S. as a leader in drone technology development.

The Consumer Technology Association (formerly Consumer Electronics Association) market research “expects 2015 to be a defining year for drones and forecasts that 400,000 drones will be sold this holiday season.”
