Computer Engineering Expert Witnesses & Apple Decision

What areas of computer engineering may experts consult and testify on?  They may consult on computer architecture and organization, embedded processors systems, hardware technologies and more.  Today, the Northern District of California case against Apple over notebooks described as defective by the plaintiffs was dismissed by Judge William Alsup.  While the class action (URIEL MARCUS and BENEDICT VERCELES, on behalf of themselves and all others similarly situated, Plaintiffs, v. APPLE INC., Defendant) claimed that Apple sold defective MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air notebooks, Alsup stated that plaintiffs failed to prove that the notebooks were not up to quality standards.

Plaintiffs described logic boards that failed within two years and MacRumors.com reported:

It appears that the MacBooks, first released on February 28, 2011, are displaying screen glitches primarily during graphics-intensive work or games. MacBook owners have noted visible striations and image distortion or an entirely blank screen, which can often be temporarily fixed with a reboot.
