The state appointed expert interviewed Holmes for twenty-two hours and believes Holmes was capable of knowing that what he was doing was wrong in the Colorado movie theater massacre. “My opinion is that, whatever he suffered from, it did not prevent him from forming the intent and knowing what he was doing and the consequences of what he was doing,” said Dr. Reid.

Forensic Psychiatry Expert Witness Files Holmes Sanity Report

Forensic psychiatry expert witness Dr. William Reid filed his sanity report for James Holmes with the Texas court this week. The court-appointed psychiatrist is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges of killing 12 people and injuring 70 in the July 20, 2012 shooting. Defense attorneys asked Judge Carlos Samour again to postpone the Aurora movie theater murder trial saying they will not have enough time to review the recently completed sanity exam for the trial in December.
