Medical Expert Witness To Testify Re: Shooting of U of So. Carolina Student

A medical expert witness will testify in the case against Michael Smith who is charged with shooting a University of South Carolina student in 2013. The expert will report on the bullet still lodged in Martha Childress’ spine. The defendant is charged with attempted murder and several weapons charges in connection with the injury which left Childress paralyzed from the neck down. Smith was carrying a stolen semi-automatic .40-caliber Glock pistol.

District Judge Edmund A.Sargus ruled that the evidence submitted by chemical expert witnesses in the MDL case against DuPont is sufficient to allow a reasonable juror to conclude that C-8 specifically caused the plaintiffs’ linked diseases. DuPont’s West Virginia Washington Works Plant released C8, a chemical used in the manufacture of Teflon, into the air and Ohio River from the 1950s until the early 2000s. The chemical reached drinking water supplies by way of the groundwater. DuPont, founded in 1802, is the world’s fourth largest chemical company.

Pfizer, Inc. has agreed to hand over emails between the drug maker’s pharmacology expert witness in the Zoloft MDL case. Dr. Stephen E. Kimmel wrote that one of the two independent studies which purportedly showed Zoloft increases the risk of heart defects in newborns contained incorrect data. Dr. Kimmel is Director of Cardiovascular Epidemiology at the Penn Cardiovascular Institute.
