In the news, the Boeing Company will pay $12M in fines to the United States Treasury for failing to meet a deadline on improved service instructions and safety certification of its planes. The agreement settles two cases as well as eleven other matters.  The first case involved Boeing’s tardiness in developing information for the installation of fuel tank flammability reduction equipment on Boeing 747 and 757 aircraft. The second case involved the company’s insufficient corrective action after discovering that a supplier had been providing incorrectly shaped fasteners. The fuel tank instructions are part of an effort to prevent problems that are suspected to have caused Boeing flight 800 to explode, resulting in the death of 230 people.
